Following the recent CiviCRM events held in the UK; CiviCon, London and subsequently the Code and Book sprints in Lincolnshire, thoughts have fallen on how to raise the profile of this Open Source project.

In a blog on civicrm.org, David Moreton highlights the reasons behind this call to action.

Most people belief that the best form of marketing is word of mouth. Much of the uptake of CiviCRM can be attributed to this, along with comparison events such as LASA's CRM comparison event and the recent CRM Idol. However realistically, there is no marketing budget. This is in stark contrast to other software in the market with similar tools and features.

The blog looks at ways that the marketing of this project may be expanded and welcomes any comments and ideas. This is an ideal way for users and administrations whose skills set don't lie in the development side of things to contribute to the community.

Increased uptake will inevitably result the growth of the community, active development and therefore the increased functionality of the software for all.
