Email automation for non-profits. How CiviCRM delivers impact and value.

For charities and non-profit organisations in the UK, communication has always been central to success. Whether it’s keeping members engaged, mobilising volunteers, or inspiring donations, the right message at the right moment can make all the difference. And despite the constant rise of social media channels, email remains one of the most trusted and effective ways to connect with supporters.

Community Action Derby

The Client

Driving real cultural change in an organisation by implementing CiviCRM.

Community Action Derby (CAD) provides support and guidance to voluntary and community groups in Derby in the UK. CAD connects organisations with volunteers, promotes events, and offers advice, training, and assistance with funding applications. Their work is critical to enabling community groups in Derby to grow and flourish.

Central to their work are programmes. Each of these may have multiple projects, grant streams and activities. CAD works to identify needs in the community, acquire funding and disburse grants to organisations who then deliver the services to the community. Grant funding needs to be tracked across individual projects and partner organisations.

CAD needed a system that would allow them to capture and report on both quantitative data and qualitative outcomes. This reporting needed to be flexible enough to provide insights at multiple levels for different stakeholders.

Previously, data was stored in spreadsheets and external platforms. Delivering programs and services using this system had become inefficient. They were in desperate need of a robust and flexible platform to centralise their operations and data, and enable them to:

The Results

CAD is benefiting hugely from their new CiviCRM and it’s now creating a real cultural change in the organisation.

They are able to track grant allocation, programs and projects and participant demographics because their data is on one central place. This has changed the way they work for the better.

SEMD - Creating elegant workflows using CiviCRM and Drupal integration.

The Client

SEMD is a leading source of professional support enabling the region’s museums to evolve and flourish. They provide grassroots support to museums in the South East. They provide timely advice, as well as essential funds to drive development and skills building opportunities for the workforce.

Funded by Arts Council England, their mission is to sustain an inclusive, thriving, and dynamic museum sector that reflects the diverse narratives and cultural heritage of the South East of England.

SEMD website

South East Museum Development had a CiviCRM database,  but it wasn’t built with their users and workflows in mind. Therefore, much of its potential had remained untapped. Circle worked with the organisation to co-design a solution that meets the needs of the team members.

The Results

Following our product demos, the SEMD Product Owner chose to build a training guide herself with video tutorials. Training is now easy to implement for current staff and new recruits.  Staff have quickly become much more confident entering new data into the system and team members can now trust information to be more accurate because there is virtually no way to get it wrong. Data collection is now increased and reporting is more reliable.

By utilising Drupal and CiviCRM integration, we simplified the workflows without compromising the functionality of SEMD’s database.

AI & membership: growth unlocked

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to evolve, organisations in the third sector are facing both exciting opportunities and significant challenges. From understanding AI's impact on the environment to navigating ethical considerations such as privacy and creators' rights, the journey toward AI adoption can feel daunting. But how can we, as organisations focused on social good, leverage AI in a way that aligns with our core values and drives meaningful impact?

An outing to Frisbee Golf

An afternoon at Ashton Court: kites, cake & frisbee golf!

We wandered over to Ashton Court for an afternoon of kite flying, walking through the deer park, plenty of cake and strawberries, and a seriously competitive round of frisbee golf in the woods. It was a great chance to relax, enjoy the fresh air, and, of course, show off our (questionable) frisbee skills.

We're excited to welcome Devona to Circle!

Devona is studying Computer Science at the University of The West of England in Bristol. Devona will be practicing her development skills whilst contributing to our projects. We're also looking forward to benefiting from her fresh perspective on software development.

In her spare time she plays in her church band and volunteers in her local church youth group. She also enjoys travelling and photography. As a self confessed "hobby collector" she's just started doing pottery, so we're really hoping some new mugs for the Circle kitchen...!
