Configuring Microsoft Outlook Express

 

Sending & Receiving Email: POP3

Please note that the following instructions are for MS Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

(Other versions of Outlook Express on other platforms may vary, although the setup procedure will be essentially the same)

Select 'Accounts' from the 'Tools' menu.

When the 'Internet Accounts' dialogue appears, click 'Add' and select 'Mail...'

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The 'Internet Connection Wizard' dialogue now appears.
 
 
In the 'Display name:' box, enter your name as you would like it to appear when people receive your emails.

Enter your email address in the following dialogue and click 'Next':

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the next dialogue, ensure 'My incoming mail server' is set to 'POP3' and enter circlemail.co.uk in both the 'Incoming mail server' and 'Outgoing mail server' boxes.

Then click 'Next':

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the following dialogue, enter your mail account name and password.

Ensure the 'Remember password' checkbox is ticked and that the 'Logon using Secure Password Authentication' checkbox is not ticked:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Click 'Next' and then click 'Finish'.

You should now find youself back at the 'Internet Accounts' dialogue. Highlight your newly created mail account (mail.yourcompany.co.uk) and click 'Properties':

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You will now see the 'Properties' dialogue for the new account.

Click on the 'Servers Tab' and then in the 'Outgoing Mail Server' section at the bottom, tick the 'My server requires authentication' checkbox:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Click 'Settings'.In the 'Outgoing Mail Server' dialogue.

Ensure that 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' is selected, and then click 'OK':

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Back at the mail account 'Properties' dialogue, click on the 'Advanced' tab.

Ensure that both of the two checkboxes marked 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' are ticked, then click 'OK':

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Problems sending mail via Port 25

Some suppliers of Internet block port 25 for email that is not from the same address as themselves. This means that sometimes the instructions above will not work!
