Drupal Navigation
Either as user or an editor/administrator you are going to be using the Menus to navigate around your Drupal Content Management System.
There are 3 core menus
Primary Links - Primary links are mainly integrated into the website designand are show the major sections of a site. A typical display for primary links would be tabs along the top of the home page
Secondary links - often used for pages like legal notices, contact details, and other secondary navigation items that play a lesser role than primary links, but also sometiems adapted for top level user navigation menus
Navigation - The navigation menu is provided by Drupal and is the main interactive menu for any site. It is usually the only menu that contains personalized links for authenticated users, and is often not even visible to anonymous users.
In addition there are
Custom Menus - These are created by the system administrator and users with the relevant permissions. They can be used as a top level user navigation menu or restricted to particular parts of the site or groups of users.
To access information on available menus, click on ‘Site Building’, then ‘Menus’.
Menus can be added by clicking on the ‘Add Menu’ tab at the top of the screen.
To edit an existing menu, choose one of the menu categories, (e.g. Primary Links) and then click the edit button, (to the right of the menu in question.)
The fileds that need to completed are the same as if creating a new menu item, but with data already there.
Path - this should be a link to pre-existing content (e.g node/4 to http://mydomain.net/news/local)
Menu Link Title - This will be the actual label that appears to your users in the menu
Description - Information about the item that the users see when they mouse hover over the menu entry
Enabled - This allows you to toggle the menu item dispaly on and off if required
Expanded - controls how the item behaves if it is a "parent" of other items
By completing the ‘Parent Item’ field, you are able to specify the required parent menu location for the menu you are creating. If you are creating a menu item, which relates to Resources, the parent item needs to be ‘Resources’. This ensures the menu you are creating is correctly classified under the parent menu.
Again, it is important that you give the page a URL path by entering the required path in the ‘Path’ field. This links the menu item in question, to a specific path.
Menu Order
The Weight option allows you to give each menu option a particular position or "weighting" to control where it appears in the list, by deafult new items appear in the middle with a weighting of 0
In the Edit Menu screen though you can rearrange menu items, by grabbing a drag-and-drop handle under the Menu item column and dragging the items (or group of items) to a new location in the list. Grab a handle by clicking and holding the mouse while hovering over a handle icon.
Remember that your changes will not be saved until you click the Save configuration button at the bottom of the page.
